The Gallery
Kvams Framing
The gallery is located on Bryggen in Bergen
Kvam's Flisespikkeri is located in the heart of Bergen, on the famous Bryggen wharf. This is also the place that provides artist Ketil with much inspiration – the old Hanseatic buildings fill much of the art he creates.
For 25 years, the shop has been in several locations around and within Bryggen. At the gallery, you also have the option to have your art framed. We can make frames in many different sizes, with a wide selection of frame types.
The Artist
Ketil Kvam
I was born in Fredrikstad, a small town east of Oslo, in 1959. My family moved to Oslo, where we lived for a few years. When I was 12 years old, we moved to Bergen, my father's hometown. My father always drew for us. This was an inspiration not only for me, but also for two of my siblings who became skilled cartoonists.
After high school, I moved to the Netherlands, where I worked with children and young people with mental disabilities. There I became familiar with Rudolf Steiner's anthroposophy. During my time in the Netherlands, I also started making furniture. I returned to Norway in 1983 and started a family. We settled in Bergen, and in 1986 I attended art school for one year.
My interest in art was always there, but it was in 1993 that life circumstances led me to decide to move east with my three children to continue my art education. In 1995, I attended a two-year art school in Sweden. In 1997 we were back in Bergen, and in 1999 I decided to try to make a living from my art
